Apple’s “Surprise and Shine” Event: Everything Just Announced

Apple held its biggest hardware event of the year today, marking the first keynote led by new CEO John Ternus since taking over from Tim Cook. And the headline act finally arrived: Apple’s first-ever foldable iPhone.

Contrary to years of rumors calling it the “iPhone Ultra,” Apple named its foldable the iPhone Duo. It opens into a large inner display for multitasking and media, uses a multi-layer lamination design to keep the screen flat, and runs on Apple’s new C2 modem. Battery life is rated at 24 hours with balanced use across both screens. It’s eSIM-only in every region. Pricing starts at $1,999.

Alongside the Duo, Apple refreshed its standard flagship lineup with the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, both getting a variable aperture camera feature and a $100 price bump over last year — now starting at $1,199 and $1,299 respectively. Older iPhone models still for sale also saw $100 price increases.

On the wearables side, the Apple Watch Series 12 starts at $399, while the Apple Watch Ultra 4 starts at $799. Both add a new “Audio Intelligence” feature that uses the Watch’s microphone to let you rewind and replay the last 15 seconds of a conversation, plus a “Siri Recap” tool that summarizes meetings and conversations automatically. Apple also introduced a ceramic-case Watch option.

Apple additionally refreshed its AirPods lineup with new Audio Intelligence features building on the same theme.

With prices climbing across nearly every category — Apple points to rising memory and storage costs industry-wide — this year’s lineup positions the iPhone Duo as Apple’s most expensive phone ever, aimed squarely at early adopters willing to pay a premium for a first-generation folding design.
